The mini cap next to his cap
Soon there will be three of us
The test is positive – now what? Before the whole world finds out, there's perhaps the most beautiful part: announcing the pregnancy. Whether you want to tell your partner, the grandparents-to-be or your friends – here you'll find ideas that turn the news into a moment you'll remember for a long time.
Announcing the pregnancy to your partner
He's usually the first to know. With a little surprise, it becomes a special moment:
Idea 1: The mini cap next to his cap
Place a tiny cap next to his own – in the same style and the same color. It takes him a second or two, then he gets it. Here's how:
1. Choose a set of 2 with an ADULT cap and a KIDS cap in the identical design. For babies from approx. 3 months there are many styles in KIDS S that are perfect for the first summer.
2. Wrap both caps together or tuck the small cap inside his big one.
3. Add the positive test or the ultrasound picture – or a card saying "Soon we'll be three".
The best part: the gift stays. Dad wears his cap from now on, and later you'll wear the look together with your child. You'll find more ideas for him in our guide Gifts for expecting dads.
Idea 2: Baby shoes next to his shoes
Put a pair of tiny baby shoes next to his shoes in the hallway. A classic that always works.
Idea 3: A letter from the baby
Write a card from the baby's point of view: "Hello Daddy, see you in June!". An ultrasound picture goes perfectly with it.
Idea 4: Hide the message in everyday life
A bun in the oven, a "Best Dad" mug at breakfast or a baby bodysuit in the laundry – little hints he discovers for himself.
Announcing the pregnancy to the grandparents: ideas for Grandma and Grandpa
For the grandparents-to-be, the news is often just as emotional as it is for you – especially if it's their first grandchild. With these ideas, Grandma and Grandpa will find out in a way they'll never forget:
The mini cap in a gift box: A tiny cap with a card saying "I'm arriving in June – are you excited to meet me?". The little KIDS cap stays as a keepsake afterwards – or later becomes the grandchild's very first cap.
Picture frame with the ultrasound picture and the line "Our first photo for Grandma and Grandpa".
A card announcing their "promotion" to Grandma and Grandpa – for example as a certificate with the due date.
Calendar or photo book with the due date marked.
Scratch card or puzzle: Under the scratch-off area it says "You're going to be grandparents!" – Grandma and Grandpa discover the news themselves.
Family photo with a hint: When taking a photo together, say "We're pregnant!" instead of "Cheese", or hold up the ultrasound picture. Film the reaction – it's usually priceless.
If Grandma and Grandpa live far away: Send a small parcel with a mini cap and the ultrasound picture and open it together on a video call. That way you're still part of the big moment.
If you already have a child, the big brother or sister can deliver the news themselves – you'll find ideas for that in the next section.
Announcing the pregnancy to an older sibling
An older sibling deserves to find out in their own special way – and sometimes even gets to share the news themselves. Lovely ideas include a picture book about becoming a big sibling, a T-shirt saying "I'm going to be a big sister" or "I'm going to be a big brother", or a cap in a matching look with Mom or Dad – and a smaller one for the baby. Our sets of 3 consist of one ADULT cap and two KIDS caps whose sizes you can combine freely.
Announcing the pregnancy to friends and on social media
For friends and social media, photos are the most popular way. Lovely motifs include three caps side by side (two big ones and a tiny one), the family's shoes lined up with the smallest pair at the end, an ultrasound picture in front of a calendar page showing the birth month, or the dog or cat with a sign saying "I'm getting a little sibling".
Tip: Tell your closest family in person before you share a photo. Nobody likes to find out news like this online first.
When should you announce your pregnancy?
Many couples wait until after the first twelve weeks for the big announcement. But there's no fixed rule: some tell their closest family very early, others wait longer. What matters is what you feel comfortable with. There's one special point for your employer: under the German Maternity Protection Act (Mutterschutzgesetz), pregnant employees should inform their employer as soon as they know about the pregnancy. Only then do the protective regulations apply – if in doubt, your HR department or your doctor can help.
