How to wash a cap: keep your cap looking good for longer

Ice cream at the playground, sand at the beach, a summer full of day trips: kids caps in particular can look pretty worn after a few weeks. The good news: washing a cap isn’t rocket science – as long as you keep a few things in mind. Here’s how to clean your Soulbuddy caps and beanies properly so they stay looking good and keep their shape.

Washing caps in the washing machine? Better not

The short answer to the most common question: please do not wash your caps in the washing machine. In the drum the cap gets tossed around – the brim can break and the cap loses its nice shape. This applies to snapback, trucker, sports, performance and dad hat caps alike, for adults and kids.

Too much water isn’t good for a cap either: if it gets completely soaked, the shape of the crown can suffer. That’s why at Soulbuddy the rule is: hand wash only with lukewarm water, then let it air dry.

Get the brim back into shape with the Cap Curver

Has the brim lost its curve after cleaning or from lots of wear? With our Cap Curver you can bring the brim of your cap back into the shape you want – whether a slight, medium or strong curve.

Place the Cap Curver on top of the brim
Pull both snap ends down and connect them as soon as the desired curve is reached
Leave it fixed for at least 1 hour, then simply open the snap closure

Washing a cap by hand: step by step

Start small: Simply wipe off light dirt with a damp cloth. Often that’s all it takes.
Hand wash with lukewarm water: If there’s more to do, carefully clean the dirty areas by hand with lukewarm water. Don’t soak the whole cap.
Don’t wring it out: Gently press out excess water with a towel instead of twisting the cap.
Air dry: Let the cap air dry in shape. Ideally, place it so the crown and brim don’t get squashed.

This works for the big ADULT caps just as well as for the kids caps in KIDS S, M and L. Tip for parents: wipe off stains from ice cream, juice or sunscreen as soon as possible. Fresh stains are usually easier to remove than dried ones – and you’ll need to clean the cap thoroughly less often.

Washing beanies

You can also clean your Soulbuddy beanies by hand. Use a gentle detergent and lay the beanie flat to dry – that way it keeps its shape. You’ll find beanies for big and small in our collection beanies.
